Features of TACONIC RF-35

Overview

  • TACONIC RF-35 is an organic ceramic laminate material.
  • It is a reinforced glass material based on glass fiber cloth, which combines ceramic filling technology with glass fiber coated teflon PCB technology.

Applications

  • RF-35 is ideal for low-cost, high-volume commercial microwave and wireless frequency applications.

Copper Foil Boards

  • RF-35 1/20Z and 10Z copper foil boards have excellent peel strength even with standard epoxy materials.
  • These boards can be reworked at any time.

Thermal Properties

  • The glass transition temperature of RF-35 is over 315°C.
  • RF-35’s ultra-low water absorption and low loss factor minimize phase shift in the frequency range.

Dimensional Stability

  • The use of glass fiber cloth in RF-35’s design and development ensures dimensional stability.

Laminate Materials

  • RF-35 laminate materials generally come with single-sided or double-sided 1/20Z, 10Z, and 20Z thick electrolyte copper foil.
  • Different sizes of PCB can be selected according to requirements.

RF-35 Microwave Material Properties

Thermal Expansion and Temperature

  • For RF-35 microwave material, the relationship between the thermal expansion rate in the Z-axis direction and temperature is significant.

Dielectric Constant and Temperature

  • RF-35’s dielectric constant changes with temperature.

Dielectric Loss and Temperature

  • RF-35’s dielectric loss varies with temperature.

Dielectric Constant and Frequency

  • The relationship between the dielectric constant and frequency of RF-35 microwave materials is important.

Taconic’s High-Frequency PCB Board Materials

Overview

  • Taconic’s high-frequency PCB board materials are based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), commonly known as Teflon.
  • Teflon is a resin with very low loss and a dielectric constant of about 2.0.
  • It is also a very good insulating material with properties such as being non-absorbent, wear-resistant, resistant to high and low temperatures, and corrosion-resistant.

Dielectric Constant and Tangent Loss

  • The dielectric constant (Ne sait pas) of Taconic’s Teflon high-frequency PCB sheets ranges from 2.17 à 10.
  • The frequency covers the range from 2GHz to 110GHz.
  • Tangent loss (Df) is less than 0.0025 at 2GHz.
  • The stability of Dk is excellent, with minimal changes with frequency and temperature.

Applications of Taconic’s Materials

  • Taconic provides PTFE/woven glass fiber woven sheets for microwave, radio frequency (RF), and high-speed digital signal processing markets.
  • These sheets are used in various applications such as LNAs, LNBs, PCS/PCN antenna systems, GPS and UMTS antenna systems, amplificateurs de puissance, passive components, collision avoidance radar systems, aviation-assisted remote control technology, and phased array radar systems.

Taconic’s History and Competitiveness

  • Taconic has a history of 40 years and has produced high-frequency PCB materials for nearly 20 années.
  • It is the largest supplier of high-frequency PCB materials.
  • Headquartered in the United States, with the Asia-Pacific headquarters in South Korea.
  • Teflon sheets can be used for both high-frequency and high-speed applications.
  • The main competitor is Rogers.
